This "Slow 12" ISO 12/12° 35mm black and white film, clearly described as a very low-sensitivity, fine-grained raw material, is a special-use, non-ordinary film.
What can it do in practice?
Very fine grain: gives detailed, sharp images with excellent quality even at magnification.
Very low sensitivity: ISO 12 means it's about 4-5 stops slower than ISO 400 film. Also in sunlight you need a longer shutter speed or a larger aperture.
Excellent tonality: usually, these films give soft, rich tonal transitions that show light and dark tones beautifully.
A relaxed, classic feel: this type of film is well suited to fine art, portrait or landscape photography.
How should it be used?
- A stand is highly recommended - even in daylight, especially if you are working with a closed compartment.
- Good lighting conditions are needed - or a willingness to take long exposures. Outside, sunny weather is ideal.
- For fine details - textures, landscapes, architecture, fine art projects - it makes excellent use of resolution.
- Lab - such low ISO films must be developed carefully; following the manufacturer's recommendations for development.
What is not ideal?
Fast motion or event photography - too slow.
Low light - only works if you can use long shutter speeds or artificial lighting.
