Film with extended red sensitivity, sensitised up to 740-780 nm. Ilford's SFX 200 is not a "real" infrared film, like the earlier Efke IR820 or the Kodak HIE, but a film with extended red sensitivity. The advantage is the easy handling and processing. The disadvantage is that they are not "real" infrared photos but photos with an infrared-like effect. However, the film can be dispensed in almost any laboratory and simply exposed with a dark red filter. However, the strongest effect and the most pronounced "wood effect" is achieved with IR filters that block light below 715nm (e.g. Heliopan RG715). The Ilford SFX 200 is ideal for getting started with infrared or for trying out infrared in simpler cameras like e.g. the Holga.
